Students' Representatives Update
The Students' Representatives Update provides an opportunity for the Graduate and Undergraduate Student Members-at-Large on the CBS Board to offer direct updates to the CBS student membership. Feedback, suggestions, concerns or inquiries via email are appreciated.
Greetings new and returning CBS student members!
On behalf of the Canadian Bioethics Society, I would like to welcome you back to another academic year. I hope you had a wonderful summer. My name is Adeolu Adesugba and I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the new Graduate Students Representative. I would also like to welcome back Zahra Shariff as our returning Undergraduate Student Representative. I want to personally thank the outgoing Grad. Rep., Lucy Langston, for the great work she did and for helping me through the transition period.
Earlier this year we had a successful conference in Banff. There were a number of great engaging student events, with our student social being the highlight, with an amazing turn out at the Coyotes South-western Grill. With the amazing student presence at the conference this year, we also had a number of great student paper and poster presentations.
Congratulations to our 2013 CBS student abstract award winners: Daniel Beck, Julia Bickford, Kimberley Ibarra, Jean-René Kandong and Jennifer Clara Tang.
Next year, the Canadian Bioethics Society’s conference will be taking place in Vancouver. We hope you will be able to join us there, as it will be another great experience.
We are also currently looking for University Representatives in universities that are not currently represented (for a list of represented Universities please click on the following link. Please, contact us by email if you are interested in becoming your university’s representative or if you have questions about the role.
Have a Great Academic Year,
Adeolu (Addy) Adesugba - Graduate Student Representative
Undergraduate Student Representative
Zahra’s term as undergraduate student representative will be ending in June 2014 and a new energetic and enthusiastic representative is being sought for the 2014-2016 term. The undergraduate representative works with the graduate student representative to coordinate student activities and, on behalf of the Board, liaise with CBS students. The undergraduate representative participates in all Board meetings, teleconferences, serves on sub-committees as required and submits student updates for the website. Elections for this position will be held at the Student Business Meeting at the Vancouver Conference.
To nominate yourself or another student for the position, please submit a short (less than one-half page) biographical sketch on the official board nomination form, indicating interests and background. The submission deadline is May 31, 2014. Contact Zahra Shariff for more details.
Remember to renew your membership. The annual membership term now starts in June, rather than September, to coincide with the annual conference. More information about fees and membership terms are available on the membership and benefits page.
We hope you are looking forward to an exciting new year with the improved CBS web site!
