Issue: Bioethics
in the Private Sector
Issue
summary: a number of corporations
in the life sciences sector have sought out the advice of
experts in bioethics. This has taken many forms, from the
establishment of in-house ethics committees, to ad hoc
consulting relationships, to the commissioning of research
papers. In all of its forms, this practice has raised questions,
from both inside and outside the bioethics community, about
a) the intentions of such corporations, and b) the loyalties
of the bioethicists hired to do such work.
